作品评述:蔡远河的版画反映的是一种孤独感和错位感。在它的作品Non-place系列中,这位广州籍艺术家描绘的人物形象令人挥之不去,他们或许独处,或许群居,但默默无闻是他们唯一的共同点。在一些作品中,人类表现为可交换的身体部件。另外一些作品中,他们漫无目的地围着一张空椅子,或者站在弥漫着死亡气息的队列里,舞动腰肢走向虚无。蔡远河认为,Non-place体现着德国表现主义的焦虑和孤立,是对压制个性的教育模式的控诉;他在作品中刻画的人物都没有灵魂、充满绝望、坠落不堪。

Comment : The engravings of Cai Yuanhe resonate with a sence of isolation and dislocation. In Non-place,the Guangzhou-based artist offers haunting images of figures who may be alone or in groups yet who,in either case,share not much more than their anonymity.In some of these works,humans are reduced to interchangeable body parts.In others,they aimlessly circle empty chair or form a macabre conga line whose destination appears to be nowhere.Recalling the angst and alienation of form a macabre conge line whose destination appears to be nowhere.Recalling the angst and alienation of German Expressionism,Non-place,according to Cai,is a repudiation of an educational model that quashes individuality;in his work,peop are rendered soulless,hopeless and corrupt.
